    I have found a few bad reviews on the m1530,
    * too expensive
    * odd shape
    * overheats
    * low screen resolution

    I prefer Asus G1s or Lenovo T61

    “Hi…
    Thanks for your comments. Spoke with Dell last night about the XPS. Just didn’t want to spend so much on a PC laptop.
    Your feedback was helpful, but if I were spending this much why wouldn’t you go Apple MacBook Pro?

    The Macbook Pro is an excellent choice too, but many people prefer the XPS. I like them both equally well and had a hard time choosing which should be #1 on my list.

  3. User Review # 2

    Aesthetically appealing, feature-rich, fairly lightweight, HDMI port, 3 USB ports, dual headphone jacks, comes with a host of XPS goodies.

    Ordered on Nov. 30 and after a one-week delay, finally got mine earlier today. First impressions are very favorable. Aesthetically, this is a winner. Thin, wedge-shape design, like the M1330 (this one runs from 0.9 to 1.4″). Solid-feeling barrel hinge. I got the “tuxedo black” color. Nice brushed aluminum keyboard tray/wrist rest, although I wish it had been more of a gunmetal gray color than silver. It’s still nice, however.

    Overall, the M1530 exudes quality. Capacitive, touch-sensitive media controls, including disc eject, are nice — glow blue when touched. The slot-load CD/DVD drive is great. Seems to pick up Wifi signals quickly and strongly… I got the Next-Gen Draft N card. Not having to power up to detect Wifi networks is great. I ordered Bluetooth, but can find no evidence that it’s on my computer. Way to go, Dell.

    Wish the screen was offered in 1440×900 resolution. That’s a rather big drawback for me, but 1200×800 is decent. Looking at the manual, it appears higher resolutions are going to be available, but they weren’t at time of purcahse. With the 128MB video card and 2GB RAM, DVDs play perfectly and running multiple programs causes no noticeable slowdowns.

    Heat dissipation is good… the wrist rest and bottom get warm after extended use, but not overly so. Battery life is typically good for a Core 2 Duo chip-based system.

    Included XPS goodies are a nice leatherette portfolio, Creative Labs noise-isolating earbuds with pouch, a very nice lined nylon slipcase for the laptop, media remote control (stores in ExpressCard slot), soft cloth for cleaning the glossy screen, and all the associated books and discs.

    Integrated webcam and dual microphones… nice. The fingerprint reader works consistently for me, although an overly dry finger will not register (common with any biometric device).

    Overall, very nice laptop for the price… good balance of form and function.
